    My first mill was a Little Machine Shop Hi-Torque 3900 mini mill, purchased second hand. The LMS ones seem to be better equipped than the same manufacturer sold elsewhere under different names. For example the LMS one has a larger table and is fitted with a belt drive instead of the plastic gear drive that I have heard is a failure point.

    57 Posts. #9 · Dec 11, 2014. I have the LMS mini mill (fixed column) model 3960. It's ben replaced by the 3990. I'm very happy with it. The motor has plenty of torque for my needs and no gears to break. The fixed column is sturdier that the tilt column. The included tooling package is a nice start as well.
