Rapid hardening cement is a type of ordinary portland cement only, except for some variations in its compositions. This results in to change in some of the properties too as discussed later on. From various types of cement available, rapid hardening cement is the one that hardens and attains strength sooner than any other type of cement.
اقرأ أكثرPortland cement is produced from clinker by grinding with approximately 5 per cent natural gypsum (usually composed of a mixture of calcium sulfate dihydrate, CaSO 4 ·2H 2 O, and anhydrite, CaSO 4), in order to regulate the setting time of the cement. Portland cement is ground until more than 90 per cent passes through a 90 μm sieve.

اقرأ أكثرRapid hardening cement attains high strength in early days it is used in concrete where formworks are removed at an early stage and is similar to ordinary portland cement (OPC). This cement has increased lime content and contains higher c3s content and finer grinding which gives greater strength development than OPC at an early stage.

اقرأ أكثرThe mixture then sent to final grinding process. For ordinary Portland cement it remains between 3 to 4% and in case of Quick setting cement it can be reduced up to 2.5%. Role of Gypsum in Cement The main purpose of adding gypsum in the cement is to slow down the hydration process of cement once it is mixed with water.

First, though a couple of definitions may be useful: The processes of 'setting' and 'hardening' are often confused: Setting is the stiffening of the concrete after it has been placed. A concrete can be 'set' in that it is no longer fluid, but it …

اقرأ أكثرThe modern day cement. That is Portland cement was first produced by a British stone mason, Joseph Aspdin in 1824, who cooked cement in his kitchen. He heated a mixture of limestone and clay powder in his kitchen, and grind the mixture into powder creating cement, that hardens when mixed with water.
اقرأ أكثرThe grinding if clinkers in modern plants is carried out in the cement mill which contains chromium steel balls of various sizes. These balls roll within the mill and grind the mixture which is collected in a hopper and taken in the bucket elevator for storage in silos. The cement from silos is fed to the packer machines.
